Each year the Society of American Foresters (SAF) holds a national convention in the fall. This year’s convention will be held October 23-27th in Charleston, SC, and offers a cutting-edge program on the current science and changing elements within forestry and natural resources. The Diversity Committee of SAF offers a number of scholarships for students to attend the convention and participate in the SAF Diversity Ambassador Program. Diversity Ambassadors attend various activities at the convention including: attending meetings, participating in roundtable discussions, giving short speeches, interacting with student delegates, and meeting with SAF leadership. The scholarship is open to undergraduate (both associate and bachelor degree programs) and graduate level students whose fields of study include but are not limited to: forestry, natural resources, water resources, soil sciences, biology, and botany. The student need not be a United States citizen. Diversity Ambassadors will be required to continue their leadership activities once they have returned to their institutions through a mentorship program. The scholarship application is attached and the first call for applications are due May 6th, 2013.
