We would like to invite you to the next meeting of the UW SACNAS chapter, which will be held November 9th, 2016 at HUB 238 from 5 – 6 PM (please see the attached flyer).
SACNAS (The Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science) is an inclusive organization whose mission is to promote the success of ALL minorities in STEM fields. The multi-award winning UW chapter provides a variety of opportunities for professional development in a fun and supporting environment to students (both undergraduates and grad students) of all backgrounds.
Our members (including postdocs) can also volunteer to participate in various outreach activities to serve and give back to our community. These activities focus in promoting STEM education to K-12 underrepresented minority students. Every month we have general meetings in which we discuss future events, opportunities for professional development and brainstorm activities to serve our members.
Our meetings serve as an opportunity for students to share their stories and learn from other members’ experiences, while enjoying delicious food! For example, graduate students members can provide valuable mentorship to our undergraduate students members.
We want to emphasize that everyone can attend our meetings without commitment; you are welcome to attend a meeting and then decide if you would like to continue participating or not. All of our events are voluntary and we want to provide the best opportunities for the chapter members!
We hope to see you at our next general meeting. If you can’t make this meeting but would like to know about future meetings, please email email@example.com and we will be happy to add you on our mailing list. You can also check us out on our Facebook page at UW SACNAS Chapter.
