The Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest is planning to fill two Natural Resource Manager (Recreation) positions in the near future. These are permanent, full time positions located on the Skykomish Ranger District in Skykomish, WA and on the Darrington Ranger District in Darrington, WA. The Districts are seeking a diverse and qualified applicant pool for this position. The purpose of this Outreach Notice is to inform prospective applicants of this opportunity and to determine level of interest in these positions and locations.
Major Duties of the Position
Serves as the management assistant overseeing and providing leadership in the planning and implementation of the recreation program for the ranger district with a substantial year round recreation program. May also provide support to forest-wide recreation or special uses programs. The recreation work includes the Northwest Forest Pass program, trails, interpretive services, visual management, winter use, special uses, wilderness, developed sites, dispersed recreation, state and private in-holdings, capital investment program, NEPA, natural resource education, visitor information, budget, work plans, grant writing, agreements and partnerships. On the Skykomish Ranger District, serves as the primary contact on all aspects of the year-around Stevens Pass Ski Area permit and may be responsible for day-to-day permit compliance. Should be able to ski at an intermediate level.
Performs the administrative and human resource management functions relative to the staff supervised. Plans, schedules, and assigns work to subordinates – oversees the work of two to three permanent GS-09 or GS -07 recreation technicians. Establishes guidelines and performance expectations for staff members; provides feedback and periodically evaluates employee’s performance. Provides advice, counsel, and/or instructions to staff members and District Ranger. Recommends or approves appointments, selections, or reassignments to positions appropriate to the selection authority delegated. Effects disciplinary measures as appropriate to the authority delegated in this area. Carries out Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and program activities. Also functions as “Acting” District Ranger in rotation with other staff in absence of the Ranger.
