This Saturday (2/11): Restoration Work Party on Mercer Island!

Dear SEFS grads and undergrads,

This Saturday, February 11, SEFS graduate student Sage Sowell, in partnership with the City of Mercer Island Parks and Recreation, invites you a restoration work party from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the north end of Luther Burbank Park (2040 84th Ave SE) on Mercer Island!

Sage is taking Professor Kern Ewing’s restoration ecology capstone course, and she’s working with a group of students to restore a .37-acre parcel of land that has seen a fair amount of human impact, which has led invasive plants to take over. They are hoping to clear most of the invasive plants and install native plants with the intention of transitioning this site back into a conifer forest.

At this work party, you will be pulling up Himalayan blackberry and planting willow live stakes. Sage will supply all the tools and will have coffee and snacks, and you can sign up online if you’re able to come!
