R6 Fire Hire Outreach

Region 6 is using the centralized fire hire process for hiring permanent fire positions. Fire Hire is a Forest Service process that we use to hire the majority of our permanent workforce in fire management positions at the GS-5 through GS-9 grade level.

The Northwest Region is looking for a committed, hardworking, highly skilled workforce to suppress wildfires and work in fuels management on 17 national forests located in Oregon and Washington. The fire and aviation management program is very rewarding and requires talented people working safely as part of a team in a variety of specialized positions. The Fire Hire program is being implemented to streamline the hiring process for permanent fire positions and provide consistent hiring around the Region. This hiring process assists the national forests in the Northwest Region to fill vacancies in a more efficient and timely manner.

We are looking for a committed, hardworking, highly skilled workforce to suppress wildfires and work in fuels management on 19 National Forests in Oregon and Washington. The fire and aviation management program is very rewarding and requires working safely as part of a team in a variety of specialized positions; including dispatch, engine crews, fuels technicians, handcrews, helitack, hotshot crews, smokejumpers, and prevention. The unique feature of this process is the ability to immediately backfill positions that have been vacated during the fire hiring process.
