This course offers an anthropological introduction to the people and politics of the Middle East and North Africa. Ethnographically grounded, the course examines some of the most critical issues in the region including displacement, identity (gender, sexuality, ethnicity), religion and secularism, violence, capitalism and consumption, social movements, and the state.
